Where in Grande Prairie can you find 2 country music stars, a world-class rodeo, a thrilling midway and a beauty pageant, all packed into one weekend? Why, the Grande Prairie Stompede of course!

This Peace Country tradition, which takes place at Grande Prairie’s Evergreen Park from May 28th to Jun 1st, is now in its 37th year. 2014 promises to be one of biggest and best Stompedes to date, expected to attract more than 30,000 visitors.

For rodeo fans, the Stompede is a real treat. It’s the first stop on the pro circuit tour for many rodeo competitors, and the competition is always fierce. The Stompede’s long list of rodeo events includes bull riding, saddle brone, bareback, novice bareback, ladies barrel racing, boy’s steer riding, team roping, tie down roping and steer wrestling. You can also count on plenty of laughs from rodeo clown Ricky Ticky Wanchuk.

Equally exciting as the rodeo is the chuckwagon racing. Day passes are available for admission all the rodeo events and the chuckwagon races

For thrill-seekers, the midway features a variety of rides, ranging from soothing to stomach churning. You can purchase tickets for individual rides or grab a wristband for all-day access.

For evening entertainment, you’ll want to get in line early for the beer garden at Evergreen Park’s ENTREC Centre, where you can see performances by Gord Bamford (Friday) and John Michael Montgomery (Saturday). Admission to the concerts is $30 for Friday and $35 for Saturday.

And of course no Stompede would be complete without the Miss GP Stompede Pageant, where Grande Prairie’s best and brightest young ladies grace us with their presence.
