One of classic rock’s most iconic bands is heading to Grande Prairie. The Steve Miller Band will hit the stage at the Canada Games Arena on April 8 and you won’t want to miss ‘em!
Formed in 1967 in San Francisco, California, the band started from humble beginnings. A blues player in Chicago, Steve Miller moved to San Francisco to experience its newfound wave of psychedelic music. Once he got there, he formed the Steve Miller Band and before long, the band was performing at concerts as big as the Monterey Pop Festival with their psychedelic brand of blues rock.

The Band’s 1973 release, The Joker, was a bold musical turn. The Band changed personnel and musical direction, shifting to more straightforward classic rock. The Joker and subsequent albums Fly Like An Eagle (1976), Book of Dreams (1977) and Abracadabra (1982) delivered wave after wave of classic rock hits and firmly established the band as one of the greats of its time.  Though some of the band’s iconic earlier members have passed on, Steve Miller is still going strong at 73 and continues to front an exciting lineup that performs his classic tunes as good as ever.
This is one of many great events that are hosted by Grande Prairie’s Canada Games Arena. The Arena also regularly houses the home games of the Grande Prairie Storm, the city’s local junior hockey team. Keep up to date on all the goings-on at the Arena here.
