Leaders of Tomorrow Presented by ATCO - Now accepting nominations!

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

“Vision is not enough. It must be combined with venture. It is not enough to stare up the steps; we must step up the stairs.” Vaclav Havel

The Volunteer Services Bureau takes pride in promoting this innovative and exciting program in the South Peace Region. We are pleased to be partners with our presenting sponsor, ATCO, and many other award sponsors.

About the Awards

The Leaders of Tomorrow Awards program recognizes students who have made outstanding contributions to their communities through volunteerism. By recognizing these exceptional youth volunteers, the Leaders of Tomorrow Awards will inspire other students to give of themselves to benefit the region and even the world.

Individuals, community groups, educational institutions, and voluntary organizations are invited to nominate young people who deserve recognition for their devotion to helping others. Each FCSS region will recognize youth in the age categories of 13-15 years old and 15-18 years old to receive awards. Awards will be presented at the Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon held during National Volunteer Week in April.

Each award recipient will receive a Leaders of Tomorrow Awards plaque, cash award of $100, and a $100 donation to the charity of his or her choice.

Criteria for Nominations

The Leaders of Tomorrow Awards Nominee must:

  • Exhibit dedication and excellence in any field of volunteer work including school, community, athletics, or fine arts; and
  • Inspire the spirit of volunteerism in others.

Student volunteer involvement at any level is eligible. The nominee’s activities may have taken place at any time resulting in a positive, and preferably, lasting impact.

Click here for a nomination form (PDF).

ATCO: Presenting Sponsor of the Leaders of Tomorrow Awards

As companies with long histories in the Province of Alberta – in Grande Prairie in particular – ATCO Electric and ATCO Gas understand the value of volunteerism and its positive impacts on our quality of life.

ATCO is donating over $29,000 to Alberta charities on behalf of its employees who volunteer in their communities. Through the Volunteer Recognition Fund, employees who volunteered 50 hours or more in 2009 were eligible to apply for a $150 donation to the registered charity of their choice.  Nearly 200 ATCO Gas and ATCO Electric employees participated in teh program in 2009.

ATCO Electric and ATCO Gas wish to acknowledge the work of those who give their time and effort to communities in the South Peace Region.

6 days left at Nitehawk!!!!!!

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

The Seasons almost over...and we're not going out without a BANG!

March 23, 2010

Even though there are only 6 full days left in the season, there’s still plenty going on at Nitehawk. And now with the snow we are continuing to get the conditions could not be any better, and it all just adds to our remaining 60cms of manmade base (thanks to our snowmaking and grooming staff).

Tomorrow night, Tuesday March 23, we’ll be open for “Powder Riding” at Nitehawk from 5:30-9:30, with $20.00 lift tickets. Now how often can we say the word “powder”? We’ll only be grooming Willoway and Easy Street, and will be leaving the rest untouched for all you powder hounds out there to enjoy.

For a list of upcoming events as well as daily hours for the remaining week of skiing & boarding, visit www.gonitehawk.com.

TEACHERS CONVENTION – “2 DAY SCHOOLS OUT CAMP”
This Thursday and Friday (March 25 & 26), we’re excited to be putting on our last lesson camp of the season. This camp
features 2 hours of instruction per day from our CSIA and CASI Certified instructors, starting at 10:30am. With this program
we also provide a lunch snack. Once the lesson is complete your children are able to practice what they’ve learnt while free
skiing or boarding the remainder of the day.

We’ll also be offering our other lesson programs right until our last day on Sunday March 28. So get in on a lesson before heading to the mountains this spring. For details on more Nitehawk lessons visit http://gonitehawk.com/rates/clinics-snow-school/
