Did you know…
The Grande Prairie Public Library releases a monthly newsletter called In Touch, which highlights library events, activities, local authors, and new additions to their collection. Highlights from October’s issue include:
- Canadian Library Month – October is Canadian Library Month, and the theme this year is “Your Library, Your World: Opening Doors to the Future.” Come in to discover how the Grande Prairie Public Library has adapted to meet the needs of the 21st century, including collections of DVDs and Blu-Rays, downloadable audio books, magazines, and more!
- Caught You Reading Week – From October 4-8, the library crew will be on the lookout for readers. If we “catch you reading,” you’ll receive a bookmark and a ballot to enter draws for great prizes including a laptop computer and a eBook reader!
- Rocky Mountain Book Awards – Local author and friend of the Grande Prairie Public Library, Sue Farrell Holler’s book Lacey and the African Grandmothers has been shortlisted for this year’s Rocky Mountain Book Awards. The program works with students and educators to stimulate the reading interests of students in grades 4 to 7.

RON JAMES ... LIVE!
With five television comedy specials under his belt and THE RON JAMES SHOW into its second successful season on CBC-TV Fridays at 8pm, Canada’s busiest and best-selling comedian takes to the road with a new “gut-bustingly, knee-slappingly funny” 90-minute rant. From MAC-savvy twenty-something tattooed techno-geeks to the mid-life angst of whiny, aging Baby Boomers, James weaves a verbal tapestry of trademark laughs that audiences have endorsed with standing ovations from coast to coast. Whether it’s our national blood sport of contemporary politics, or family stories from the 1960s, where dreams of making the NHL are squandered on Pee Wee league hand-me-down hockey skates with buckles on them a leprechaun would wear, or a frightening forest encounter with a nostril-drooling bull moose that gets him babbling in a ‘Cro-Magnon tongue he never knew he was fluent in’, RON JAMES ... LIVE! has something for everyone ... a roller coaster ride of seat-soaking laughs!
“devastatingly funny” - Globe & Mail
“5 STARS - Utterly Brilliant” - Ottawa Sun
“funniest man in Canada” - Victoria Times-Colonist
“4 STARS - a wheezing, snorting, chortling, gasping night of hilarity” - Edmonton Sun
“thunderous standing ovation” - Saskatoon Star Phoenix
“fits of helpless laughter” - Halifax Chronicle Herald
“Winspear crowd in hysterics” - Edmonton Journal
